Ontario second round FIT green power contracts total C$3bn

Ontario under its feed-in tariff (FIT) programme has approved 40 new large-scale renewable energy power projects, that the Canadian province says will create 7,000 jobs and attract C$3bn ($3.06bn) in private sector investment.

The second round of projects total more than 872MW that will generate power for more than 200,000 homes .They include 33 ground-mounted and two rooftop solar PV projects totaling 257MW of power, four onshore wind farms adding to 615MW and a 500kV hydro station.

Ontario Power Authority (OPA), which administers FIT, says the projects will use at least 240 wind turbines and one million solar panels.
