Siemens puts its energy into local supply chain

Siemens is putting its plans to build a wind turbine factory in Brazil on hold, although it is setting up a local supply chain to provide equipment to developers in this competitive market, Recharge has learned.

The company has signed a deal to provide 78MW of turbines to Brazilian renewables generation company Ersa, and is negotiating for two other wind projects that were allocated deals in the 2010 renewables tender. Siemens is also talking to developers about selling wind-energy supply contracts into the unregulated market, the next frontier for Brazilian wind power-purchase agreements.
