Shell-Cosan joint venture to produce biomass electricity

The new Shell-Cosan joint venture company, Raízen, will produce 900MW of biomass electricity, on top of being one of the top five grossing companies in Brazil.

With an estimated market value of $12bn, an estimated revenue stream of $50bn and 40,000 employees, Raízen is expected to be one of the most competitive sustainable energy companies worldwide, according to a press release.

Raízen will produce more than 2.2bn litres of ethanol from 62 million tonnes of crushed cane each year for the domestic and foreign markets, as well as four million tonnes of sugar. It will sell about 20 billion litres of fuel between commercial transport and industry, as well as through its 4,500 Shell gas stations.
