Vestas overwhelmed by job applicants for Colorado plant

The Danish company this weekend was seeking to fill 400 manufacturing jobs for a planned wind turbine tower factory in Pueblo, Colorado.

After about 1,000 people showed up, hundreds of other interested workers were turned away and were asked to attend later information sessions.

Colorado Governor Bill Ritter, who observed the job fair, said he was not surprised at the turnout given the state’s high unemployment and downturn in the oil and natural gas industry.

Colorado and the city of Pueblo have offered Vestas about $2m in tax incentives to build the plant, which the Danish company says will be the world’s largest turbine tower factory.
