Oklahoma utility PSO expands wind energy portfolio

Public Service Co. of Oklahoma will buy 198MW of electricity from two wind farms scheduled for operation by yearend , spokesman Stan Whiteford said Thursday.

PSO will buy 98.9MW from a wind farm to be built in Elk City by NextEra Energy Resource and 99MW from Horizon Wind Energy's Blue Canyon wind farm near Lawton. Both facilities are in western Oklahoma.

While terms of the 20-year contracts are confidential, the utility said they will not result in higher prices for customers.

The proposed purchase agreements have been presented to the Oklahoma Corporation Commission for approval.

PSO, a subsidiary of American Electric Power, currently buys 392.7 megawatts of wind energy from wind farms around the state.
