Borkum Riffgrund 2 'still in pipeline'
Dong Energy is keeping its 300MW Borkum Riffgrund 2 project off Germany's North Sea coast on hold, the company's chief executive Henrik Poulsen said today.
"When it comes to Borkum Riffgrund 2, no news on that one. It is still in our pipeline," Poulsen said at a conference call on nine-months earnings.
Dong Energy in late 2012 had said it had to postpone the project and put it back into its development pipeline as the required grid connection for the project would not be in place in time.
The project "is due to come back into a more active status a couple of years down the road," Poulsen said without being more specific.
Experts observing the German offshore wind industry had recently guessed that Borkum Riffgrund 2 is one of several projects whose final investment decision is imminent - pending a firm commitment to offshore wind by Germany's incoming government.
Chancellor Angela Merkel is currently in coalition negotiations with the Social Democrats to form a new government. German offshore wind groups are lobbying for an extension of current favourable terms of support for offshore wind parks.
