Short-term, on again/off again incentive programmes create an inefficient boom-and-bust cycle, says Dennis McGinn

Economic uncertainty still seems to linger over just about every US market sector, business and household.

Four years ago, many of us believed that, markets would be ripe with jobs, investment and higher wages by now. For the most part, that is not the case. Recovery from the deepest economic crisis since the Great Depression has been slow.

However, one industry — renewable energy — has experienced incredible success during the recession, outpacing the growth of the overall economy. And perhaps more than in any other sector, American innovation has played a key role in unlocking market opportunities for renewables in the recovering US and global economies.
