California
Edison
(SCE),
the
US
utility
with
the
most
solar
energy
in
its
portfolio,
is
making
the
first
significant
change
to
its
distribution
circuits
in
more
than
a
century
to
accommodate
more
distributed
PV.
Currently,
the
distribution
circuits
serve
as
one-way
paths
delivering
electricity
from
a
substation
to
homes
and
businesses
in
the
area,
each
one
serving
about
1,200
locations.
US
utilities
are
increasingly
focused
on
solar
projects
in
the
1-20MW
range
that
can
be
connected
directly
to
the
distribution
grid,
rather
than
undertaking
larger,
more
costly
projects
in
remote
