Partnership heads into new waters

Norwegian tidal-energy company H ammerfest Strøm's partnership with A ndritz Hydro is already bearing fruit. The Austrian hydropower company, which became the main shareholder in Hammerfest Strøm through a share issue in August, aims to open up new markets for the Norwegians' 1MW tidal turbine. Hammerfest Strøm chief executive Stein Atle Andersen says: "Andritz Hydro is supporting us in the engineering, both with regard to electrical systems and mechanical aspects.



OSLO: "They are also doing construction work related to the nacelle of our HS1000 1MW turbine. As a company with global presence, Andritz Hydro has also opened up new sales channels for us."

Hammerfest Strøm's HS1000 turbine will start operating next year at the European Marine Energy Centre, off Orkney, Scotland. Its predecessor, a 300kW prototype, has been generating power in Norway since 2004.
