No extension at Thanet

Vattenfall has abandoned plans to extend its 300MW Thanet offshore wind farm, prompting fears that the sector may face a period of downtime between construction of Rounds 2 and 3 of UK offshore licensing.



London: In May, the Crown Estate granted extensions at five offshore wind projects as a way of smoothing the build-out process over the next decade.

Many observers predicted a lull for offshore wind companies between the completion of Round 2 projects, such as the London Array, and the start of Round 3 projects, forcing the industry to shrivel or decamp to other European countries.
