Military takes aim at plans for 1,500 turbines

Sweden's wind industry fears that the military is seeking to stop the installation of up to 1,500 turbines with a total capacity of 3GW.



OSLO: The country's military authorities do not want to allow wind farms within 40km of a number of military airfields, and have also vetoed the construction of turbines in security zones around firing ranges where the armed forces train.

Three companies - Statkraft S ö dra Vindkraft, Stena Renewable and Arise Windpower - had permits to erect 150 turbines at different sites around the Mästocka firing range in Halland, not far from the city of Halmstad.

But objections from the military might stop the projects, or at least delay them by…
