Statnett buys into German grid link-up

Statnett, Norway's national power-grid company, has bought 50% of the NorGer high-voltage direct-current cable project.

Oslo: It will develop the project with the current NorGer partners - Norwegian utilities Lyse and Agder Energi, plus Swiss energy trading company EGL.

The intention is to link the Norwegian and German electricity transmission grids. The NorGer cable will have a capacity of 1.4GW and will link the Norwegian hydropower system with the German grid.

Statnett has also applied for consent for Nord-Link, another projected power cable between Norway and Germany.
