Mexico has 35% target for green energy

Renewables will make up 35% of Mexico's energy supply by 2024, according to a national strategy that should be approved by Congress this year.



SÃO PAULO: The strategy appears to be, in part, a response to the rapid dip in Mexico's oil production. The plan aims to reverse the decline and boost oil production to 3.3 million barrels a day by 2024. Currently, it produces less than three million barrels a day.

Energy security, efficiency and sustainability are the focuses of the strategy, including increasing the use of renewables and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
