Ohio seeks proposals for $100m lake project

Lake Erie Energy Development Corp (LEEDCo) has issued a request for proposals for a $100m pilot project to site four to eight utility-scale turbines offshore of Cleveland in Lake Erie. Developer Bluewater Wind, a unit of NRG Energy, has expressed early interest. LEEDCo plans to select a developer by 1 June that will be asked to bring the turbines into commercial operation by late 2012, says Richard Stuebi, president of the non-profit corporation.



Fort Worth: The turbines will produce a total of 20 megawatts, roughly enough electricity to power 12,000 homes. Each turbine will be 79 metres high and located three to five miles (4.8km-8km) out in shallow waters. The chosen company will be given priority to develop wind farms under the aegis of LEEDCo, which was created by Cuyahoga County's Great Lakes Energy Development Task Force to tap the region's wind resource and boost the local economy.
