Iberdrola gets consent for Whitelee expansion

Iberdrola subsidiary ScottishPower Renewables has received consent from the Scottish government to develop a second extension of the Whitelee onshore wind farm - Europe's biggest.



The extension will add another 39 turbines, each with a capacity of 3.6 megawatts (MW), bringing overall capacity to 593MW from a current 322MW. The initial 140-turbine development was completed in May 2009, when ScottishPower Renewables also received planning permission for a first extension of 36 turbines. Construction of both extensions will be carried out at the same time, starting in 2010, with completion expected in 2012.
