The world’s second-largest module supplier last year (behind China’s Yingli), and largest solar EPC contractor on the back of its massive US project pipeline, Arizona-based First Solar retains its reputation for spotting new market opportunities before the competition. Shares have more than doubled since chief executive Jim Hughes was brought in last year — good news for the company’s largest shareholder, the Walton family (of Wal-Mart fame).
