So relying on a four-day window of calm weather to install the turbine foundations at Alpha Ventus was always asking for trouble. When high winds swept through the site of the German North Sea project in the summer of 2008, installation proved impossible. The assigned jack-up barge, Odin, which had to be towed about 70km from the Dutch port of Eemshaven, just couldn’t handle the whipped-up waves.
