But last year, something different happened. A toy manufacturer and a charitable foundation for the hard of hearing paid a staggering DKr4.7bn ($855m) for half of Dong Energy’s 277MW Borkum Riffgrund 1 in the German North Sea.
Kirkbi, the Danish parent company of toy-brick maker Lego, took a 32% stake in the project for DKr3bn, while Denmark’s William Demant Invest, the investment arm of the Danish Oticon Foundation, acquired 18% for DKr1.7bn.
