Siemens has received an order to supply nine of its 2.3MW turbines to NJR Clean Energy Ventures for a wind park in western Iowa, the German company said at the AWEA fair that ends today in Las Vegas.

Installation of the geared wind turbines at the Carroll wind power plant is scheduled to begin in October, with commissioning expected for early 2015.

The turbines are geared towards low to moderate wind speeds and with 108-meter rotors provide an optimised power output for the site-specific wind conditions in western Iowa, Siemens says.

The contract also includes a service and maintenance agreement. Siemens will produce the major wind turbine components at its production facilities in the US.

"All of the blades will be manufactured at our nearby Fort Madison, Iowa, facility, and all nacelle sand hubs for this project will be assembled at our factory in Hutchinson, Kansas," says Mark Albenze, chief executive of Siemens Energy's Wind Power Onshore Americas business.

"This order is further evidence that the federal production tax credit continues to boost new economic investment in the US. and encourages development of proven renewable energy projects."

Siemens yesterday had announced that it will move the head of its global energy businesses to the US.
