Local developer Vieghofer Windmanagement and Renergie have inaugurated the 46MW Windpark Hagn project in the Austrian state of Niederösterreich.

The wind park features 20 of Enercon's 2.3MW machines.

Renergie is a unit of Austrian bank Raiffeisen Holding and develops and operates renewable energy projects.

Windpark Hagn is the second-largest wind farm in Niederösterreich, a state that already generates 15% of its power needs by wind energy, according to Austrian wind power association IG Windkraft.

The wind park reaches across four municipalities and is located in the district of Mistelbach that in the past has been associated with Austria's most important oil exploration site.

"Wind energy today has taken over from oil drilling towers through the opening of Windpark Hagn," says IG Windkraft managing director Stefan Moidl.
