Celebrations according to industry officials went on all night Friday after Brazil contracted 1.5GW of new capacity at a wind-only tender, all of which needs to come online by Sept. 1, 2015.

After a lull in 2012, the sector seems to be eventually able to foresee growth and stability throughout the coming years.

Brazilian government officials said the round was “a great success.” In spite of major challenges, the government bought energy for a very competitive price at an average of R$110 ($46.8) per MWh, said Mauricio Tolmasquim, head of the Energy Planning Agency, EPE.

Meanwhile, the Brazilian Wind Energy Association (ABEEólica) also opened up bottles of Champagne.
