GE buys into EDF PV project

Catalina uses modules from Solar Frontier

A group of investors including GE has taken a majority stake in the 143MW Catalina Solar project in California, says developer EDF Renewable Energy.

The deal closes financing for the PV plant in the Mojave Desert, which is scheduled to achieve full operations in the second quarter of this year.

The investment group, comprising GE Energy Financial Services, MetLife, Union Bank and Citi then plans to buy the remaining stake, says the developer.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Catalina uses thin-film PV modules from suppliers Solar Frontier and First Solar. It will supply utility San Diego Gas & Electric Company.
