The
plant,
located
about
50
miles
west
of
Chicago,
consists
of
68
Goldwind
1.5MW
turbines
and
three
of
the
group’s
2.5MW
units.
News
of
a
possible
deal
first
emerged
in
late
November,
when
Algonquin
revealed
it
was
in
talks
over
a
possible
purchase
without
naming
Shady
Oaks,
which
was
Goldwind's
largest
US
wind
asset.
Goldwind
claims
the
deal
is
an
important
step
to
showing
its
permanent
magnet
direct-drive
(PMDD)
wind
turbines
are
seen
as
viable
assets
in
the
US.
