US adds 6.8GW of wind in 2011 as developers race PTC threat

Wind installations in 2011 totalled 6.81GW – a 31% increase from 5.21GW added the previous year – as developers accelerated projects before possible expiration of the federal production tax credit (PTC) at the end of this year, the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) reports.
