Iberdrola signs 300 MW power sale deal with TVA
Wind power giant Iberdrola Renovables has signed a 20 year power purchase agreement (PPA) with US public utility Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) for the output from its 300 MW Cayuga Ridge wind farm.
Iberdrola said that the agreement is the biggest PPA for wind energy in its history. Iberdrola Renovables US subsidiary Iberdrola Renewables is currently constructing the Cayuga Ridge wind farm in the Odell and Emington localities of Illinois State, to the south of Chicago, with support from a US government treasury grant. The wind farm will be completed in the Spring.
For TVA, the agreement will contribute to its target of incorporating 2 GW of wind energy into its system. Iberdrola says that Cayuga Ridge’s construction has generated 330 direct jobs. TVA is the largest public provider of energy in the US, supplying power to 9m consumers in seven states in the south-eastern US.
Iberdrola is currently the second largest wind power producer in the US, with an installed capacity of 3.6 GW from 39 wind farms, equivalent to 30% of the company’s total. The US makes up 42% of Iberdrola Renovables’ global development pipeline of 57.4 GW.
