Northland Power’s Jardin d’Eole begins Quebec operation
Canada’s Northland Power Income Fund has begun commercial operations at its 127.5 megawatt Jardin d'Eole wind farm project near Matane, eastern Quebec Province.
The project comprises 85 General Electric 1.5 MW wind turbines. All power generated will be sold under a 20-year purchase agreement to Hydro Quebec, a public utility owned by the provincial government.
"We are very proud of the whole team that brought in this project 11 days ahead of schedule and well within its $268 million total budget," says John Brace, chief executive of the Northland Power Income Fund .
The wind farm was built by Borea Construction, a Quebec-based joint venture between Montreal's Pomerleau Construction and DH Blattner and Sons of Minnesota in the US.
Brace says the project resulted in more than $100m in the local Gaspesie, Quebec, economy. Ten permanent jobs were created at the project site.
Jardin d’Eole boosts Northland Power Income Fund’s wind energy generation assets to 181.5MW in Quebec.
