OG&E signs two agreements for 280MW in additional wind power
Oklahoma Gas and Electric has signed 20-year power purchase agreements for 280 megawatts of power with developers of two new wind farms planned in northwestern Oklahoma.
The utility accepted power delivery proposals by CPV Keenan from a 150MW wind farm in Woodward County and Edison Mission Energy from a 130MW facility in Dewey County near the town of Taloga.
The utility, based in Oklahoma City, says construction of the planned wind farms is contingent upon regulators at the Oklahoma Corporation Commission approving the deals between OG&E and the developers.
The agreements with both wind call for them to build, own and operate the wind generating facilities.
OG&E now has 170MW of wind capacity in production today and is building a 100MW wind farm near Woodward.
The utility is also negotiating with Chermac Energy, a developer owned by Native Americans based in Edmond, north of Oklahoma City, to purchase power from a proposed 150MW wind farm in Texas County in the state’s Panhandle region.
Oklahoma is expected to one of the leading US states for wind power as a planned build out of high-voltage transmission lines takes place. Much of the state’s large wind resource is located in sparsely populated western counties.
