PetroSun to supply algae-based biofuel to researchers

Arizona-based algae-to-fuel producer PetroSun said it will provide five drums, or about 275 gallons, of biodiesel for emissions studies being conducted by three leading research bodies.

“The information produced from these studies will be of benefit to the algae-to-biofuel industry and assist in the company's efforts to establish a carbon credit program for commercial algae operations,” PetroSun said.

The algae-derived batches of biodiesel will be sent to Carnegie Mellon, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and NextEnergy, a non-profit organization. The UCLA program is funded by a multi-year grant from the US Department of Energy.
