The creaking UK electricity grid is drowning under a “tsunami” of connection requests from renewables developers, which are left with a “deeply painful” view of their assets sitting idle, says EDF Renewables' country chief for solar and energy storage.
Years of underinvestment in the grid have left new wind and solar projects receiving offers to connect as late as next decade, according to a major government report issued last August.
