BP – the oil supermajor with ambitions to also be a major player in renewables and the energy transition – has named Murray Auchincloss as its new chief executive.
Auchincloss has served as interim CEO since the abrupt departure of Bernard Looney in September last year over personal issues, and analysts predicted his permanent appointment would signal broad continuity with BP’s existing strategy.
