About the position:

Media Officer

Full time position, reporting to the Communication Director

The European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) is seeking a Media Officer.

EWEA is the voice of the European wind energy industry – actively promoting the utilisation of wind power on behalf of 650 member organisations in Europe and worldwide. Our resources are focused on lobbying and communication activities. EWEA is located in Brussels where it engages in the political decision-making process on behalf of the wind power sector.

The Media Officer is responsible for leading and managing EWEA’s relations with print, broadcast, online and other media.

Key responsibilities include:

Strategy

  • Support the Communication Director in developing and implementing a long term media strategy and action plan

Media work

  • Enhance and strengthen relationships with international and major national media, key journalists and media correspondents.
  • Profile EWEA with Brussels-based journalists, specialist media and relevant correspondents and media organisations in other European cities.
  • Liaise with press and communications staff of EWEA member organisations to maximise media coverage on wind energy.
  • Disseminate EWEA positions and opinions to targeted media via press releases and follow-up actions
  • Manage media activities at all EWEA events including all contacts with journalists on- and off-site
  • Manage all requests from the media.
  • Arrange press conferences and briefings and organise radio, television, newspaper and magazine interviews.

Applicants must have a Bachelor degree, preferably in journalism, public or media relations and at least two years’ experience as a Press Officer dealing with European affairs or energy issues. Applicants must also possess excellent written and oral English skills and good command of written and oral French.

Personal skill:

  • Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner, orally and in writing
  • Good understanding of energy markets
  • Very familiar with Brussels-based press corps
  • Good organisation skills
  • Excellent social and interpersonal skills
  • Enthusiastic personality and positive mindset

Some travel will be necessary.
